Teaching Sample
In this teaching sample, I am using the Signing Naturally curriculum at the ASL 6 level to teach how to describe automobile accidents. I start by splitting the students into two groups: one of "witnesses" and the other of "traffic police". The witnesses view a video of an accident. The police, who do not see this video, are outside the classroom preparing their questions for the inquiry. When the witnesses are done viewing the video, they call the police in and describe what they have seen. After that activity students prepare for their own video assignments, which will also involve describing automobile accidents.
